Unfortunately it took a long time because some people came and they were chit-chatting so all of the birds were quieter and obviously I don't want people talking in my video so we had to wait patiently for them to move along. I love getting short nature videos so I was trying to get a nice 30 second clip of the area. Then we moved on to an area called Alligator Pond. I would love to frequent it if I lived closer. I love connecting with nature and I felt so connected in that moment and that place. It was almost a magical moment though for me. And we were pretty sure we saw some alligators but at that distance it was hard to confirm. And then we went to another overlook where we saw seagulls dive bombing for fish which was really cool because I have only seen that on TV. It's funny because my daughter was disappointed at first she said, "I thought we were going to a zoo!" So we had to explain to her what a wildlife refuge lol.Īt the first stop, called Osprey Overlook, there were a ton of ospreys just like the sign promised haha. But I also love birds and there are millions of birds in the area and it is quite the sight. I am from Colorado so I have never seen an alligator and that was a hope for my trip.

I'm so glad that we made a detour to go to Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife Refuge. We will be going through this venue every time we want to dolphin watch here. It was only for an hour and it was a bit more costly than the bigger ships that load like 60 people on board but it was definitely worth every dollar spent. We felt like we were on a close friend's boat doing this as we had such a wonderful day. Extremely personable and an amazing overall great time.

Lots of knowledge and experience with the crew that does this. The best was watching one chase his lunch (small fish) and the fish was actually smart enough to hide behind the motor of our boat as the dolphin stayed back a bit. We cheered them on and saw one even do a flip out of the water. Pods of dolphins were everywhere and some of them got right up to the side of the boat, even if only for a fleeting moment. After a about 15 minutes with that one dolphin and learning more we set out to go further around the coast line.

The captain was super encouraging to teach my kids on how to attract them closer. Not even 5 minutes on the boat we saw dolphins. We met the Captain of a pontoon boat as another family was disembarking and quickly set out.

Their concerns are that people using hand sanitizer can't touch any of the animals as it could effect them.Ī quick phone call though set us up with a specific time to meet the boat at a specific dock within the channel that runs along Port Isabel. The actual building location is not open currently as explained to me by one of the employees due to COVID-19 concerns, which was initially disappointing however understandable.
